The weather outside was absolutely perfect. Jaywing enjoyed the feeling of fresh sunlight on his fur. Green leaf surely was his favorite season out of all of them. Prey was plentiful, cats were healthy, and things seemed so much brighter and clearer. He took the time to enjoy the fresh air, before he felt a rumble sound in the stomach. Looking around, he spotted a pile of fresh kill.
He purred and grabbed a fish from the pile. It looked as if it had just been caught. He had already been on the morning patrol today, so it should be safe to go ahead and eat. Then, a bright idea popped into his head. Maybe Bliss'star would like to share it with him. The fish was too big for one cat to finish alone, and it had a been a while since he shared a friendly conversation with his leader. He made his way to her den and poked his head in.
"Bliss'star? May I come in?" Jaywing asked through a mouthful of fish.

It was just a little past dawn, and happy rays of sun filtered smoothly through the leader's den. The leader was barely awake as she messed with her bedding, just laying peacefully on her side as she thanked StarClan silently for another day of peace. Suddenly, a small grasshopper sprung in front of her from one of the cracks in the wall. Purring with glee, she lashed out a paw, casually missing the terrified insect.
"Bliss'star? May I come in?"
Her ears quickly flicked to where the voice was coming from, and at first, it sounded like a bunch of words thrown together. She sat up, blinking her eyes toward the dark tunnel before quickly smoothing out her fur. The scent of fish was strong, which made her stomach reply with an empty rumble.
"Come on in, Jaywing~" Bliss'star grinned, her voice as pure and calm as usual.

With his leader's permission, Jaywing stepped carefully into the den. He set the fish in front of his leader. I brought this for you. I was going to eat it, but it's a little too big for me. I was wondering if you'd like to share it with me." he purred, returning the grin to her. Even inside of the den, he could feel the sun's warm rays hit his silver and white fur. In the brief moment of silence, he could hear everything. The green leaf breeze blowing the trees, the river running, and kits playing. It was perfect. He loved green leaf. Shoving his thoughts and observations out of his head, he put his focus back on her as he awaited her answer to his offer.

"I'd love to!" she grinned, her ears raising up high in thanks. Her belly rumbled silently with pleasure at the first salty bite, and it instantly reminded her of being at the river, catching her first minnow back in EchoClan. Sure, it was small, but delicious, and definitely a memory. Her heart thud in sorrow for a moment, but she reminded herself about here, now, and being a big, tough leader.
"Ahh, nothing like a fresh fish to start the season out right," she purrs, a warm breeze circling inside the den that cooled you, but seemed to also warm you at the same time. "I cant wait to get my paws wet during sunhigh...It's definitely going to be a very hot few moons ahead of us."

He let out a purr of delight. He sat down across from her and took a bite. He heard her stomach growl, and then he heard his own. He swallowed the first bite, and the feeling of food on his stomach was a very good feeling. He perked his ears up and listened to her talk. Swallowing his second bite, he nodded his head in agreement.
"Fresh fish does always give us a good season. Especially in this weather, there will be so much more prey then there was in leaf bare...." he trailed off, trying to rid of the pain in his heart. It was last leaf bare that the clan had starved so bad when the river froze over. His parents, Lillypool and Splashtail, had both caught green cough and the clan didn't have any herbs or food to keep their strength up and both of them passed onto Starclan. It was a hard season for Riverclan, and one of the worst leaf bare's that the clans have ever seen. He didn't even know that Splashtail was his father until he had died.
Snapping from the painful memory, he acted like nothing was on his mind. "I couldn't agree more, Bliss'star. While the warm weather feels wonderful after the cold, the water is perfect for when it gets really hot." then, he took another bite. Chew. Swallow.

Bliss'star flinched at the few mental images of leaf-bare in her mind. That's when they had lost their old leader, Barrenstar. He was a very old soul, and he probably wouldn't have made it through anyway. Halfway through winter, she was announced leader, which was a little bit of a relief and sorrow for every cat. It was a struggle, and Bliss'star promised herself she'd never let her clanmates starve and suffer like this ever again.
"As nice as the weather is to talk about," she purred amusingly, swallowing another piece of fish, "i'd like to know, how have you been lately? Have things been looking up lately?" she blinked, taking another small bite. Her stomach began to settle contently as she listened for his answer.

Taking another swift bite, he noticed the same pain in her eyes at the memory of last leaf bare. They had lost at least a good five or six warriors from the clan, and then around that same time his sister was mouse brained enough to go and get herself killed by that badger. He shook his head, and then decided that a subject change was the best. Thank Starclan that Bliss'star seemed to agree with him.
"Things have been good. I'm taking life easy. Just living life, going on patrols, hunting. You know, the daily life of a warrior. And yourself?" he asked, taking one last bite from his fish before he decided he was full enough to stop eating.

"Slowly learning how to be a leader," she purred in amusement. She was a pretty good leader, but still learning on the way. Sometimes a few StarClan cats would visit her with a few tips, since Barrenstar didn't really realize he had to teach his deputy. Silly old cat, she thought with amusement, feeling as if the old cat was gazing down on her with a fake frown and a chuckle.
"Its hard, even though it seems simple... Barrenstar made it look like a kitten's game!" she purred, her tail curling at the tip. At heart, she still felt like the warrior she was when she arrived a long while back. She studied the tom in front of her for a moment. The one thing she fell for were those eyes. The she-cat always loved deep ocean blues.
She blinked, suddenly realizing she was awkwardly staring into his eyes for a long time. Trying to pick back up conversation, she added, "It's a little cooped up in here... maybe we should take a walk to the river? Celebrate a little greenleaf by stretching our paws?" she smiled.

"Don't worry about it" he purred reassuringly "I know it seems like a challenge now, but you're doing a wonderful job". Then, at her offer, his ears perked up a little higher. "Sure thing, Bliss'star. It might feel good to take a walk." he got up and stretched his legs, shaking his fur out. Flicking his ear and twitching his whiskers, he made his way out of her den and stopped at the entrance, waiting for her to follow.
"It's such a beautiful day." Jaywing finally said as they started on their walk, just to start off a conversation. "But, you may know, with this kind of weather means there's bound to be kits being born everywhere." as any cat should know, though, he wasn't the one for kits. Oh joy.

"I sure hope so!" she purrs, making her paw steps smooth and gentle. Birds sang overhead, rejoicing in the morning sunlight as they made their way, swooping down to grab food for their own early offspring. "A litter of kits or two is just what RiverClan needs, as well do the other clans." The two were heading toward the small end of the river where the water was very shallow, perfect for hunting small fish and even walking over the rock bridge toward other clan territory.

"I've never been the one for kits. Maybe it's because my father was never there for me. But, I do agree that kits are always a blessing to a clan. Because they grow into fine warriors" he said, feeling the soft grass beneath his paws. As they inched closer to the river, he could hear it smoothly running and the birds were singing a small tune.
They approached the river, and he sat down, giving his fur a few quick licks. "I've always enjoyed Riverclan. I don't understand how the other clans can be so disgusted with swimming."

"Well, than that's just your cue to be a better father than yours was. Give your own a chance you seemed to miss," she blinked, smiling confidently while she let her tail brush under his chin in sympathy. She understood completely. She had to watch her birth tribe shrivel up into nothing but dust while they, only a pile of fur and bones, were forced to escape. Not just for herself, but for her father. She made a promise.
"I've always enjoyed Riverclan. I don't understand how the other clans can be so disgusted with swimming."
"So have I, as you can tell~" she purrs, placing her paws just barely into the cool flowing water. "I guess the other clans are afraid to get a little messy," she laughs, flicking the tip of her tail to send a few harmless drops at Jaywing's side.

His cue to be better than his father? He thought about it. He just couldn't picture himself hanging around kits. "My father, Splashtail, he was a great warrior. He didn't pay attention to us because he wanted all of his attention to protecting his clan instead of hanging around kits." Jaywing hated what he was saying, but it was true. It was the only true thing. "When Skyheart and I were kits, we always begged Lilypool to know who our father was. She refused to tell us, and she told us that whoever he was, that he believed warriors belonged outside in the forest, not in the nursery"
He fell silent. Did he really want to be like his father? Not really. He still could not wrap his mind around being around kits. In his thoughts, he heard his leader say something, but he didn't catch what she had said. Then, he felt the drops on his fur. He looked at her with blue eyes and purred. So, that's the game she wanted to play?
He jumped into the shallow part of the river and flicked a pawful of water at her. He let out a snicker, and his eyes lit up with amusement.

As he splashed a paw-full of water at her, she couldn't stop purring. Even leaders needed to have a little relaxing fun, right? She backed up, pointed toward Jaywing, let her weight balance on her haunches, before she ran, jumping into the shallow water with a splash intentionally going right for him!
When she surfaced, which was soon because she could almost touch the bottom, she couldn't stop laughing. Her fur pressed against her, and she was shaking from the sudden change in temperature.

Purring, Jaywing flicked more water at his leader. He splashed in the river wildly, and soon both cats were soaked. It was a bit cooler, but felt good in the hot weather. "Look at you, oh mighty Riverclan leader! Splashing around like a fish" but, he could possibly say the same for himself. He was dripping with river water.
