"Swantalon, you're expecting kits. You've been expecting kits for about a quarter moon, actually..."
Skystorm had said those exact words earlier, speaking to the small white warrior. The same small warrior taken by a swan when she was a moon old. The same small warrior who had watched her father die. The same small warrior who navigated tunnels far below the surface, not being able to see down there, but still always reach light.
The same small warrior who had been meeting a Kittypet for moons.
She sighed, taking a large rabbit from the fresh-kill pile. She would retire to the nursery in a little less then a moon. Swantalon, as she bit into the fresh-kill, vowed to tell Galestar that she was expecting kits- kits fathered by a Kittypet- as soon as she had a chance. Yes, even the Kittypet part. At least she didn't have to tell Cobalt, look into his deep amber eyes, and tell him that she had his kits, not for this Twoleg thing called a 'year'.
Then, there was the matter of her kits. She loved them already, full clan or not. Not everyone would know of their parentage. Swantalon would just tell Galestar, maybe Blueflight and Skystorm. Cobalt had been, as he had said, of 'prized blood'. He said he could trace his lineage back to cats considered very valuable and prized, as well as, distantly, that of two cats, one named 'Wind', one named 'Gorsestar', who any cat knew were the first two leaders of WindClan, and mates...
As Swanfeather continued biting into her rabbit, she was so distracted, she didn't hear pawsteps...

Galestar padded into the clearing, flicking a golden tail. She enjoyed the warm sun on her pelt along with the green-leaf breeze. She noticed one of her warriors, Swantalon, in the clearing. Galestar approached her. She opened her mouth to greet her, but she saw a worried look written all over her face.
"Well, hello Swantalon" she said, her voice laced with concern. "Is there something wrong?"

At the sound of her leader's voice, Swantalon visibly jumped, clearly not having expected that. Swallowing the last bite of her rabbit and pushing the skin and bones away, the warrior turned around to face Galestar. She was half-Kittypet herself... Maybe she could relate to these kits.
"Today, Skystorm called me into her den..." The warrior replied. Her tail was twitching rapidly from side to side, clearly out of nervousness. "I'm expecting kits... Trust me, I'm extremely happy about that, but..." Swantalon stopped right there, claws digging into the ground and returning to her paws. It wasn't that bad, right? It wasn't like they were the kits of a ShadowClan warrior...

Galestar jumped a little herself as her warrior jumped. She eyed her, as if questioning what was going on. And then, Swantalon told her. She was expecting kits. Galestar purred and curled her tail up in delight. "Kits are always a blessing to the clan, Swantalon. I know you'll make a wonderful mother!" and then, she heard the "but".
Galestar stopped and tilted her head. "But? Is there something else you would like to tell me?" the leader asked.

For a moment, Swantalon was relived. Maybe she wouldn't have to tell Galestar after all. Maybe her kits could just think that they were full-blooded WindClan warriors. They'd never need to worry about a thing. After all, was Galestar ever going to find out she had Kittypet blood if her father hadn't yelled at her? But then, she began to ask if there was something else, and Swantalon knew she had to respond.
Leaning in slightly closer to her leader and lowering her voice, Swantalon said, "Their father was..." She hesitated, knowing it was too late to stop. "...A Kittypet." The warrior felt like she would join StarClan right then. At least it wasn't a ShadowClan warrior...

Galestar paused when she heard who the father was. She let the news sink in for a minute, and she closed her eyes for a minute and shook her head. When her eyes opened again, she gave Swantalon a disappointed look. Although Galestar had some kind of understanding, that didn't mean she was going to be lenient with her warrior.
"Swantalon, as your leader I am disappointed in you. However, what is done is done. I will not tell the clan who the father is, because I don't want the kits picked on for being half kitty pet as I was. I will let them believe that it is a secret warrior in the clan."
Galestar still couldn't believe what was happening. She sighed, shook her head again. "I can't let this go unpunished. You have broke the warrior code. From now on, you are not allowed to leave the camp. I'm making you resign from your warrior duties early. Instead, you will stay in camp and pick flees and ticks from the elders and you will help bring food to them as well as change their bedding. Do I make myself clear, Swantalon?" Galestar asked her.

"Yes, Galestar. To be honest, I was expecting something along the lines of exile... But that doesn't mean I'm asking to be exiled, of course. I'm assuming the clan will ask me why I am being punished, so, if it's alright of course, I'll say that I am expecting kits, and that I simply want to be useful while I'm confined to camp." Swantalon said, her warrior instinct disappointed, despite her words. But it was still not a horrible punishment... Just apprentice duties.
"I know I'm not in a position to make requests... But could you... help me with something? When the kits are ten moons old, I plan to tell them of their father's identity. However, they probably won't be... The most calm, I can assume. Would you help them... Not be overcome with shock and surprise?
"Another thing... How long will my punishment last? And if there's an emergency, such as the camp being raided and all of us having to flee, am I then permitted to leave? I just want to know the limits... Of course, an emergency is unlikely, and I'm not planning to leave if I can help it, you have my word."
Swantalon knew it sounded slightly defiant, even disrespectful, at least in a leader who would be strict of furious. She didn't know if Galestar was very angry or not, actually... Her head was dipped in respect and acceptation of her punishment. She just hoped Galestar would look at it the way she actually meant it.

Galestar shook her head. "If the clan asks why you're staying in camp, tell them that you're expecting kits and staying close to camp, but you're helping around as best as you can still to be useful." the golden tabby she-cat stopped and listened to everything else that Swantalon had to say.
"You will not return to your warrior duties until your kits are apprenticed. I hate to do this to you, but a warrior must learn her lesson when she does wrong." and at her request "Of course I will help them cope with the news. And no other cat has to know, unless you want to tell them. I, however, will keep quiet about who their father is."
